AGING
Goal
The aging population receives good care and is able to maintain a high quality of life, both physically and mentally, that is suitable for the environment.
Objectives
- To promote the quality of life of older persons, both in urban and rural areas, so that they can live securely and in a manner suitable for their age and their physical and mental condition, particularly with regard to reproductive health.
- To strengthen recognition and acceptance of the aging population, including their reproductive health, their various capacities, and the support older persons need within their communities and surrounding areas, including that provided by family members.
- To encourage and support the elderly in their role of uniting the family, which is suitable and compatible with local cultural and traditional practices.
Strategies
Under Objective 1: To promote the quality of life of older persons, both in urban and rural areas, so that they can live securely and in a manner suitable for their age and their physical and mental condition, particularly with regard to reproductive health, the following strategies should be implemented:
- Disseminate knowledge and information through the mass media and clubs for the elderly, by emphasizing the general health and reproductive health of older persons.
- Provide health services for the aging population and prepare mature women and men to enter this stage in life. PPAT Clinics will refer clients to government service providers according to the needs of the people and the appropriateness of doing so, including conducting home visits.
- Produce information, education and communication documents and media for knowledge dissemination.
Under Objective 2: To strengthen recognition and acceptance of the aging population, including their reproductive health, their various capacities, and the support older persons need within their communities and surrounding areas, including that provided by family members,the following strategies should be implemented:
- Join networks and activities with organizations established for the aging population at all levels in order to raise awareness among the elderly about the effects of aging on reproductive health.
- Conduct campaign activities in communities and through the mass media to raise awareness of physical and mental health issues among the elderly, including their capacities which could contribute to the development of society and the community.
Under Objective 3: To encourage and support the elderly in their role of uniting the family, which is suitable and compatible with local cultural and traditional practices, the following strategies should be implemented:
- Integrate strategic issues related to the aging population into the projects and activities of PPAT, which are implemented in communities and elsewhere, including those that promote the value of living with the elderly in communities.
- Produce appropriate educational media for older persons to increase their opportunities to continuously gain information and knowledge.
- Conduct activities for the elderly so that they can contribute to society and communities through PPAT projects or those related to such projects.
